Explore commonly asked questions and answers about youPass.

General

What is youPass?

youPass is a new way to link with people nearby and track your global prominence in various places around the world. It’s a personally driven network fueled through real world interaction.

For each link you create, you choose at any time which contact information you’d like to share. Shared data is live streaming so the most up to date contact information is always accessible.

It’s time to give life to your digital self in the physical world. Welcome to youPass.

What is youID?

youID is simply your username for youPass. Your youID is visible to your existing links and people nearby. You may display your name instead by tapping name in the Privacy Settings.

How do I delete data that I've added to youPass?

To delete contact information from youPass, click Edit on your youPass page and swipe across the information you’d like to delete.

Why can't I use my Facebook or Twitter account?

In order to use Facebook or Twitter in youPass, you must be signed into your account on iOS and youPass must have access.

To sign into Facebook or Twitter on iOS, go to the Settings app and find Twitter and Facebook. Tap on the service you want to use, sign in and make sure it’s turned on for youPass.

Prominence

What is prominence?

Each link created earns you prominence. Prominence is a measure of the number of people you're linked to out of the total linking population. As you create more and more links you'll find yourself earning prominence in different areas around the world.

View prominence details by tapping on a prominence score anywhere in the app. Enable Hourly Updates in the Privacy settings to maintain prominence even when you aren’t using the app.

Why can't I see my prominence score?

Links, internet and your location are all required to generate a prominence score. If you have links, make sure you have an internet connection and Location Services is enabled.

To enable Location Services, go to the Settings app, find Privacy, tap on Location Services and make sure it’s turned on for youPass.

Links

How do I create a link?

Create new links with anyone nearby. Simply find people in the Nearby list and send a link request by tapping Link. Or scan a youPass in Passbook to link right away.

What happens once I’m linked with someone?

Once linked, share validated contact information like phone numbers, email addresses and usernames for Facebook and Twitter. If you make any changes to information you share with a link, they will automatically receive the updates.

What can links do with the data I share?

Links use the data you share as they choose. Shared data may easily be saved to Contacts or copied and used elsewhere

Why can't I Add to Contacts?

The Add to Contacts function requires that youPass has access to your iOS Contacts.

To grant youPass access to your Contacts, go to Privacy in the Settings app and make sure Contacts is turned on for youPass.

Can anyone see my links?

No one can see your links except you. However, people you’re linked with see the number of links you have.

Nearby

How is the Nearby list populated?

Nearby displays a list of all other youPass users at your location. This may include people within 25 meters of your location, people on the same WiFi network and people within Bluetooth range. If you can’t find someone at the same location as you in the Nearby list, we probably can’t find them--try having them open the app or scan their youPass in Passbook.

Enable Hourly Updates in the Privacy settings to automatically check for users nearby even when you’re not using the app

What does "hide" do?

Hide will make you invisible to non-linked youIDs in their Nearby lists. In the Privacy settings, you may hide from all users. In the Nearby list, you may choose specific users to hide from.

Security

How can I secure youPass?

youPass remains signed in unless you choose to sign out through the Account settings. You may add a password, passphrase and PIN to your youID for ease of use when signing in and out or switching devices.

How do I use youPass without a password?

Since youPass remains signed in on your device, you may opt out of using a password. However, if you try to sign in on a new device or you get signed out of your current device, you will need to Recover youID to regain access.

My device has been locked out. What now?

After multiple failed login attempts, you will be locked out of youPass. In order to sign into a locked device, you will need to Recover youID or create a new one.

How does Recover youID work?

Recover youID allows you to access your account by revalidating the contact information associated with it. Recover youID is available after multiple failed login attempts or if you opt out of security and use a new device.

In order to gain access to your account, you must revalidate at least two items associated with your youID.

Privacy

What is my location used for?

youPass only allows you to link with people at the same location. Also, we generate a prominence score based on your current location and location of your links.

In order for youPass to access your location, Location Services must be enabled on your device and it must be turned on for youPass.

To enable Location Services, go to the Settings app, find Privacy, tap on Location Services and make sure it’s turned on for youPass.

Can anyone see my location?

Your current location is only visible to non-links at your location. You may disable this feature by enabling Hide in the Privacy settings or by hiding from specific users in your Nearby list. Your location will never be revealed to your links or to other people outside of your location.

How is my data protected?
